How it all started...

21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 2:21-22 (NIV)

After a long and hot summer of 2006 when the next season of autumn had started to usher, a small group of Filipino families and their friends decided to establish a place of worship in Brampton. It was the 15th of October 2006 when the families of Catangay, Agbuya and Custodio with the help of two dedicated servants of God, Pastor Alex Pacis and Pastor Manny Gallardo, took the bold initiative to hold the very first worship service of God’s Dwelling Place Christian Ministries at the Music room of Bramalea Civic Center. They were later joined by Castillo family and Nora Palad.

The church name was taken from Ephesians 2:21-22 with a vision of building a solid dwelling place of God in the hearts of every believer through worship, prayer, care and love. Mission and evangelism are the core ministries that drove this church to marching on to glorify God – bringing people to Christ Jesus and develop them to Christ-like maturity, equip them for their ministry in the church and their life mission in the world in order to magnify God’s name.

Not long after that year, families after families were added to the church. The “Passion” was the first major event that GDP held in 2007 with former actress Lotis Key, who was used by God to inspire the early members of the church. With the leadership of Pastor Rey Catangay and elder Alberto Oanes and former elder Rogel Agbuya (currently the Pastor of Lighthouse Church) the membership of the church grew steadily with all the ministry positions filled out to perform the various tasks that enabled the church to accomplish the vision and mission God had given. GDP became a channel of drawing more people to God in order to experience His goodness and love and most especially His saving grace.

Since GDP’s early years, its members are continually encouraged and strengthened to serve God in various activities. Worship services, Sunday schools, home bible studies, weekly prayer meetings, monthly congregational prayers, summer and winter camps, youth seminars and conferences, picnics and our traditional bayanihan of lipat-bahay the Canadian way.

In 2010, our first major mission to the Philippines was launched with Pastor Rey going to different places in Cavite and Marinduque to proclaim the gospel of Christ. This mission was accompanied by several balik-bayan boxes filled with canned goods, clothes and toys for our fellow Filipinos whose lives in far flung places were desperately in need of help physically and spiritually. In this year also, GDP church, with God’s blessings, got registered as a charitable institution - to operate as a local church in Brampton with the help of Ptr. Ben Mapa facilitating the early release of its license. We are thankful to Church Planting Ministries Inc. (CPMI) under Ptr. Alex Pacis for their unselfish effort in adopting the church in its infant years providing administrative and spiritual guidance.

In 2011, our youth ministry for the first time attended the Joshua Revolution Conference in Buffalo, enriching their faith in God and experienced the power of God together with thousands of youths coming from different churches in North America. Then the following years, attendance doubled. The experience gave them the boldness in voicing out their faith in Christ and realizing that they are the “ambassadors” of Christ to the world.

September of 2012, God opened door for another ministry for GDP in Mississauga, Ontario under the leadership of Pastor Joven Balisi- who took the challenge to lead a couple of families and start the regular Saturday worship services at Malton Community Center. God’s faithfulness for financial support and provisions were answered through Associated Gospel Church of Canada (AGC) who partnered with us in this mandate of proclaiming the gospel of Christ. We have seen the power of God moved in God’s ministry to accomplish His purpose.
Following the “great commission”, more support had been provided to missions in the Philippines not only in Luzon but also in Mindanao. GDP had enlarged its tent in reaching out for others - by giving support to students through scholarships and sponsored school feedings to poor children in the Haven of Hope ministries and Community Resource Center (CRC) Pre-school in Davao. Balik-bayan boxes were also sent to bless them.

This year, GDP family is still up to the challenge to continue the journey of proclaiming God’s faithfulness and love to others, to be a testimony of God’s goodness and blessings and to be used by God to become channels of His blessings and power to the world. We are so thankful and so privileged to be part of His universal church. Ephesians 2:10 said “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!
